Duties
and responsibility: Working for school systems or in audiology
clinics or hospitals, audiologists diagnose and treat hearing problems. They
also work with patients who have balance and dizziness problems potentially
related to the inner ear. Audiologists may prescribe treatments that involve
hearing aids or implants, with the goal of enhancing or restoring hearing
function in patients young and old.
Salary: An Audiologist earns an average salary of $63,880 per
year. Pay for this job does not change much by experience, with the most
experienced earning only a bit more than the least. The highest paying skills
associated with this job are vestibular and Cochlear Implants.
Education: Audiologists
must complete a four-year doctoral degree in audiology, including coursework in
anatomy, physiology, pharmacology and communication development, to become
licensed. Throughout their career, audiologists must take continuing education
courses to keep current on developing technologies and treatments, and to
maintain an active license. Specific licensing and continuing education
requirements vary by state.
