Duties and Responsibilities: Cardiologist responsibilities are many but one of the most important one is providing the best possible care to the patients. To hold this position the cardiologist must be dedicated and willing to continue his education so he can stay current with new technologies and medicines in order to provide patients with the best options for them individually. They need to have extensive knowledge of modern equipment and medications used to treat heart diseases.
Salary: Cardiologists make an awful lot, too. They are guaranteed an average base salary of $512,000, according to the Merritt Hawkins data. The third highest-paying specialty: Urology. These specialists earn an average of $461,000, not including production bonuses or benefits.

Education: First, an aspiring cardiologist must have a bachelor's degree in order to get into medical school. The most logical pre-med bachelor degrees include courses in chemistry, mathematics, engineering or psychology. Then one must gain a passing score on the MCAT (Medical College Admission Test).The four years in medical school covers standard medical terminology, medical judgment and clinical standard procedures.
